Gold Medal for a student of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the 69th Polish Indoor Athletics Championships
Oliwier Wdowik, a student of Internal security and a Polish athlete specializing in sprinting, representing the CWKS Resovia Rzeszów club, defended his gold medal in the 60-meter race at the 69th Polish Indoor Athletics Championships held in Toruń on February 22-23.
Oliwier Wdowik had an exciting battle with Adrian Brzeziński. In the preliminaries, under the guidance of coach Janusz Mazur, he achieved a time of 7.71, which was two hundredths of a second better than the sprinter from MKL Toruń. The final turned out to be a race of hundredths of a second – Oliwier completed the 60 meters in 6.68 seconds, while the competitor from Toruń took one hundredth of a second longer.
Oliwier Wdowik is a talented athlete who has stood on the podium of the National Youth Olympiad and the Polish Indoor Championships in the U18 and U20 categories.
In 2019, he won gold in the Swedish relay and bronze in the 200-meter race at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku. In the winter of 2020, during the Polish Indoor Championships at the Toruń Arena, he defeated older competitors and, by winning the gold medal, broke the Polish junior indoor record in the 200-meter race with a time of 21.09. At the 2021 Polish Senior Championships, he won a silver medal in the 200-meter race.
In 2021, he became the first Pole in history to compete in the final of the 100-meter race at the World Junior Championships, finishing in 5th place with a time of 10.46. At the same event, he also won a bronze medal in the 4 × 100-meter relay (with Dominik Łuczyński, Patryk Krupa, and Jakub Pietrusa), and the relay team successively broke the European junior record in the semifinals (with a time of 38.93) and the finals (with a time of 38.90).
