Polish Science Day – A tribute to great minds
On February 19th, we celebrate Polish Science Day, established in honor of outstanding Polish scientists whose work and discoveries have contributed to the advancement of science worldwide.
This date is not coincidental – it is the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus, one of the most eminent scholars in history, who brought about a revolutionary change in the perception of the Universe. This year marks the 552nd anniversary of his birth. "On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres," Copernicus's work that revolutionized global science, was the foundation of the heliocentric theory. Copernicus went down in history not only as an outstanding astronomer but also as a versatile scholar who made significant contributions to fields such as economics, law, medicine, and cartography.
Polish Science Day is not only an opportunity to commemorate the achievements of great figures but also to reflect on the contemporary significance of science. Scientific research forms the foundation of technological, social, and economic progress. It is thanks to scientists that we can enjoy modern medicine, innovative technological solutions, and a better understanding of the world around us.
Today's celebration is also a holiday for students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers who delve into the mysteries of knowledge every day, seeking new answers to key questions of our time. Polish Science Day reminds us of the crucial role science plays in our daily lives and the importance of its continuous support.
We wish all scientists, researchers, lecturers, and students of the University of Rzeszów unending curiosity, scientific success, and satisfaction from the challenges they undertake. May this day be an inspiration for further exploration of knowledge, discovery of the unknown, and development of research passions.
On the occasion of Polish Science Day, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Dr Marcin Kulasek, addressed a letter to representatives of the scientific and higher education community. He expressed gratitude for their commitment and contribution to the development of science and acknowledged their research, teaching, and implementation achievements.
