Activities of the Centre
The Centre for Documentation of Contemporary Sacral Art carries out activities in the following areas:
- acquisition, archiving, and digitalisation of documents concerning sacral art from the 19th and 20th century;
- scientific research;
- publications, conferences, and exhibitions that aim to popularise sacral art;
- popularisation of resources gathered by the Centre.
The collection of the Centre includes archival materials, museum objects, and iconographic materials, comprising more than 1,100 pages of documents, 500 sketches and drawings, and approximately 700 photographs. The collection is stored in the Library of the University of Rzeszow.
The Centre has its own library consisting of 3,026 volumes and 509 copies of periodicals concerning sacral art. From 2009 to 2019, the Centre organised 14 national scientific conferences as well as 11 art exhibitions featuring paintings, photographs, and sculptures. The Centre also publishes an annual, peer-reviewed scientific journal – Sacrum et Decorum. Materials and Studies on the History of Sacral Art (https://sacrumetdecorum.pl/?lang=en). The journal has been included in the list of scientific journals approved by the Ministry of Education and Science since 2012. So far, 14 volumes have been published.
