The academic research at the Institute is primarily concerned with fine arts, the conservation of fine arts, artistic studies, film, and theatre studies. The Institute employs two professors, 22 postdoctoral degree holders, seven PhD holders, and nine MA holders. The Institute concentrates on the following research avenues:
- research into formal, expressive, and semantic means of expression in a work of art, with the emphasis on their socio-cultural impact and influences from other disciplines;
- creativity in graphic design;
- creating public space through graphic design and multimedia;
- the impact of visual means of expression on the shape of art.
In recent years, the Institute has been rapidly growing, which is further reflected in the academic development of faculty members. The Institute is a part of a vast academic network, including Polish and international research centres.
