Project description
The primary objective of this initiative is to publish a peer-reviewed monograph dedicated to documenting the losses endured by the Przemysl Diocese between 1939 and 1945. The publication will be freely accessible online, adhering to Open Access principles. The project serves as a continuation of a previous endeavor titled “The Damages to Cultural Heritage of the Przemysl Diocese during World War II”, conducted between 2022 and 2023 as part of a nationwide program announced by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Researching Polish War Losses, project number 04746/22). Most project components were completed during the period, including the organization of an academic conference that brought together 60 speakers from Poland and abroad. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances, including health issues among project organizers, delayed the publication of the monograph in 2023. The monograph addresses various issues pertaining to the cultural losses suffered by the Przemysl Diocese during World War II. Additionally, the publication documents over 800 volumes from the Diocese Archives that were lost during the conflict. The catalog provides details such as parish names, historical (in 1939) and current decanal affiliations, names of saint patrons, and detailed descriptions of the lost volumes. The publication will be available in both traditional and digital formats. The introduction to the catalog will be translated into English. The monograph has already received favorable reviews from two esteemed scholars.
