Project description
The project aims to conduct extensive research on the achievements of Poles and Independent Poland on the path toward economic and social modernisation. The time frame selected for the project covers the efforts to restore independence of the country, the Second Polish Republic, the difficult times of occupation and socialism, and the contemporary Poland. The objectives of the project include conducting research, publishing the findings and spreading the knowledge regarding modernisation efforts in Poland in the last 150 years. Research will be carried out by researchers who specialise in both humanities and social sciences. Their work will be supported by researchers participating in the thematic conferences organised within the project under the common title ‘Various aspects of modernisation in Poland’, dedicated to social and economic growth in Poland from the late 19th to the early 21st century. Following each conference, a monograph will be published in the hope of contributing to the current state of knowledge regarding the research area. In addition, the project also involves publishing the series ‘Catalogue of Polish Modernisation’, which will consist of 11 volumes, including 8 scientific monographs, a historical dictionary of Polish modernisation, and a bibliography of economic and social achievements in Poland. All resources will be available on the website of the project (http://www.wdrodzekumodernizacji.pl/).
