The environmentally friendly decomposition of organic waste by use of vermiculture. The influence of environmental factors on the populations of Lumbricidae. Physico-chemical properties of vermicompost which has been produced (including digestate). Selected aspects of earthworm ecotoxicology.

The research focuses on the benefits of sustainable development introducing, in particular, integrated waste management. An important aspect of researching the problems of waste management is based on increasing the knowledge of estimate vermicomposting methods (including vermicomposting of post-fermentation sludge). In other research, soil organisms are used to estimate and measure the human pressure on ecosystems.

The research concerns the processing of selected plant waste in vermiculture. Influence of vermireactor’s construction on the qualitative and quantitative structure of Lumbricidae and the physicochemical characteristics of the vermicomposts produced. Influence of abiotic and biotic environmental factors on selected features of Lumbricidae. The welfare of Lumbricidae in vermiculture. The use of vermicomposts in the production of substrates for growing plants.

Characteristics of Lumbricidae communities in selected areas. The use of earthworms in the biomonitoring of the soil environment. The extraction technique that induces earthworms to leave the soil. Selected aspects of earthworm toxicology. The economic importance of earthworms.
