On April 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., an electoral assembly was held at the University of Rzeszów. By the decision of 150 eligible Electors, Prof. Dr hab. med. Adam Reich was elected as the new Rector of the University of Rzeszów. The new Rector will begin his term on September 1, 2024. The ceremonial transfer of power will take place at an extraordinary meeting of the Senate of the new term.

Adam Reich

Adam Reich (born 1977) - dermatologist and venereologist, professor of medical sciences. He graduated with honoursfrom the Faculty of Medicine at the Piastów Śląskich Medical University in Wrocław in 2002. He obtained his Ph.D. in medical sciences in 2006 for his work titled "Selected neuropeptides in the serum of patients with psoriasis," and his habilitation degree in medical sciences in 2011 for his work titled "The influence of narrow-band ultraviolet B radiation (311 nm) on the ultrastructure and function of keratinocytes," which was awarded by the Minister of Health at the time. He was awarded the title of professor of medical sciences in 2017.

From 2007 to 2017, he was associated with the Department and Clinic of Dermatology, Venereology, and Allergology at the Piastów Śląskich Medical University in Wrocław, where he worked as an assistant, assistant professor, and then associate professor. Since 2017, he has been the head of the Department and Clinic of Dermatology at the University of Rzeszów, and from 2018 to 2024, he was the director of the Institute of Medical Sciences at the Medical College of the University of Rzeszów. He is the founder of the first Clinic for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Itching in Poland, a member of the Polish Dermatological Society, a long-time member of the Executive Board of the Polish Dermatological Society, and the creator and chairman of the Podkarpackie Branch of the Polish Dermatological Society. He is a member of several international scientific societies, including the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, where he serves as the Vice-Chair of the EADV Task Force on Pruritus, and the European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry, European Society for Dermatological Research, International Society of Dermatology, and International Forum for the Study of Itch. Since 2023, he has been a member of the team of experts for reviewing organizational units applying for accreditation to conduct specialization training and clinical internships in dermatology and venereology, as well as a member of the coordinating team for the treatment of plaque psoriasis.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the Otto Braun-Falco Scholarship (2006), the Prof. Feliks Wąsik Award for the best work in the field of dermatologic oncology (2007), the Prof. Zdzisław Ruszczak Award in the category of Scientific Activity (2011), and the scholarship for outstanding young scientists (2012).

Adam Reich is the author of over 450 scientific papers and the author or co-author of numerous textbooks and monographs. He is the founder and chief editor of the journal Forum Dermatologicum, as well as a section editor in journals such as Archives of Medical Sciences, Biomed Research International, and Dermatology and Therapy. His main scientific interests include autoimmune connective tissue diseases, skin diseases during pregnancy, psoriasis, dermatologic oncology, psychodermatology, and the pathogenesis and clinical presentation of itching.
