Rafał Wilk, Ph.D., won the bronze medal in the men's road race (H4) at the Paralympic Games in Paris!

Rafał Wilk is one of Poland's most decorated para-cyclists. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Culture Sciences and is a respected lecturer at the Institute of Physical Culture Sciences in the College of Medical Sciences at the University of Rzeszów.

Rafał Wilk has long dominated hand cycling, serving as an inspiration for both athletes and students. His achievements are not only sports triumphs but also a testament to his strength of character and determination.

This is Rafał Wilk’s fifth Paralympic medal.

He has been a Paralympic champion three times. In London 2012, he won two medals. Four years later, in Rio de Janeiro, he secured two more: gold in the time trial and silver in the road race. This year, he added a bronze to his collection, marking his fifth Paralympic medal.

“Well, now I have all the colours of the medals for my collection. I am satisfied and consider this medal a success because it came despite what my PESEL shows. Although this medal is bronze, it tastes just as sweet as the gold ones. In Tokyo, bad luck and equipment issues deprived me of a medal, so fate has repaid me,” said Rafał Wilk in an interview with the Polish Paralympic Committee.

Gold medallist Jetze Plat of the Netherlands completed the 56.8 km course, with an elevation difference of 140 meters, in 1:29.15. The silver went to Austrian Thomas Fruehwirth (+0:31). Wilk finished over five minutes behind Plat.

Rafał Wilk began his sports career as a speedway rider, but after an accident in 2006 that ended his speedway successes, he embarked on a new path, becoming one of the most decorated Paralympians in history. Besides his sports career, Rafał Wilk is also actively involved in academic life, sharing his knowledge and experience with the younger generation.
