Title of professor of exact and life sciences for Iwona Kania-Kłosok
We are honored to announce that by decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, the title of professor of exact and natural sciences in the field of biological sciences was awarded to Iwona Kania-Kłosok from the Faculty of Biology and Nature Protection of the University of Rzeszów.
Prof. Iwona Kania-Kłosok, biologist, entomologist, paleoentomologist, conducts research in the field of taxonomy and phylogeny, deals with the evolution, paleobiodiversity, paleoecology and paleobiogeography of insects with particular emphasis on fossil flies (Tipulomorpha and Anisopodomorpha groups) preserved in fossil resins of various ages, as well as in the form of imprints in sedimentary rocks from the Triassic to the Neogene. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications that have appeared in prestigious journals and two monographs.
She conducted research in scientific units in Poland and abroad, including in France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland. She gave lectures at national and international conferences, including: China, Germany, the Dominican Republic, and Lebanon. She collaborates with scientists from research centers in Poland (PAN Kraków; University of Silesia; University of Gdańsk) and abroad (Spain, France, China, Great Britain). She has participated and continues to participate in the work of several research teams, including international ones, implementing projects financed under national (NCN) and foreign (FEDER program) competitions, covering interdisciplinary and international groups of specialists (15 countries), implemented within the framework of topics concerning not only paleozoological aspects, but also geological, paleoecological aspects in the context of global changes, such as the project ‘Cretaceous Resin Event: Global bioevent of massive resin production of the initial diversification of modern forest ecosystems’). She also coordinated the international project ‘Insects in the Lower Cretaceous Lebanese amber - their taxonomy, palaeobiodiversity and evolution’.
In the years 2013-2024 she was a member of the Board of the International Palaeoentomological Society (IPS). She is the editor of the journal Palaeoentomology published by Magnolia Press (Auckland, New Zealand), and since 2018 a member of the International Scientific Council of the journal Annals of the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom, Entomology. To date, she has supervised three PhD students, several masters and bachelor students. She has been a reviewer in several doctoral dissertations, and a member of the committee in habilitation proceedings.
