We are extremely pleased to announce that Mrs. Professor Anna Blom Doctor honoris causa of the University of Rzeszow has become a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (Kungl. Vetenskapsakademin), class of medicine.
Prof. Anna Blom was born in Krakow in 1969 and graduated from the Jagiellonian University (1993). She received her doctorate in medicine from Uppsala University in Sweden in 1997. She did her postdoctoral training at Lund University (Sweden), where she became a professor of protein chemistry in the Faculty of Medicine in 2006. Prof. Anna Blom has been very involved in organizational activities related to science for many years, chairing, among other things, the Swedish Scientific Committee for Medical Research and Health in Stockholm. Prof. Anna Blom is an outstanding scientist recognized worldwide. Her most important scientific discoveries concern the mechanisms of regulating the activity of the complement system, about which she has published more than 300 scientific papers, most of them original experimental work. These studies have focused not only on anti-infective responses, autoimmune diseases, but also on the role of complement in the pathogenesis of cancer or metabolic disorders.
In 2018, the Senate of the University of Rzeszow awarded Professor Anna Blom an honorary doctorate from the University of Rzeszow for her outstanding scientific achievements and contributions to the development of science at the University of Rzeszow.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (Kungliga Vetenskapsakademien), founded in 1739 by King Frederick I of Sweden, is an independent organization that works to promote science, mainly natural sciences and mathematics. The Academy's committees are also selection committees for the Nobel Prize and the Bank of Sweden Prize. Congratulations!
