Brief description of the scientific activities of the Department

The basis for the scientific activity of the Department of Hematology is its clinical activity-Diagnosis and treatment of proliferative and non-cancerous diseases of the hematopoietic system under contract with the National Health Fund, including, among others, highly specialized therapeutic procedures:

  • Treatment with innovative, costly active substances within the framework of NFZ therapeutic programs dedicated to oncological and non-oncological diseases
  • Chemotherapy and immunotherapy of hematologic and lymphoid malignancies under guaranteed benefits
  • Treatment of other hematological disorders
  • Therapeutic and collection apheresis
  • Autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplants
  • Prevention and treatment of complications

Department of Hematology - Medical University of Rzeszow Poland

The clinic has been licensed by the Ministry of Health to perform autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplants since 2022, and is accredited by the National Tissue and Cell Banking Center for the operation of the Blood Cell Bank. Hematopoietic cell transplants have been performed at the Hematology Department since 2023.

Modernly equipped specialized diagnostic laboratories operating within the Clinic conduct highly specialized hematological diagnostics at the highest level: Flow Cytometry Laboratory (immunophenotypic diagnosis of acute leukemia, lymphoma and plasmocytic myeloma, assessment of minimal residual disease MRD), Cytogenetics and Cytology Laboratory (classical cytogenetics and FISH) and Molecular Biology Laboratory (research by PCR and NGS methods).

The activities of the Hematology Department are supported by the Podkarpackie Association for the Development of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation. The primary statutory goals of the Association are to protect and promote the health of people with blood cancers, to raise the level of treatment in the field of hematology, to secure the needs of patients requiring hemato-oncological treatment. Since 2021. The Association has the status of a Public Benefit Organization. We encourage all people of good will to give their support and donate their 1.5% tax to the Association, KRS: 0000378065.

Description of the Department's didactic activities

In the Department of Hematology, as of 2019, the didactic program in the form of exercises, seminars and lectures in hematology within the subject of internal diseases and in clinical transplantology for fifth-year students and in internal diseases for sixth-year students of the medical faculty and English Division of the College of Medical Sciences of the University of Rzeszow is implemented.

Since 2000, the Hematology Clinic has been conducting medical specializations within the framework of its accreditations in the fields of internal diseases and hematology, as well as training doctors from other centers within the framework of directed internships.

Within the framework of the Clinic, there are periodic lectures given by employees of the Clinic and invited guests, as well as doctors undergoing specialization in the field of diseases covering the subject of specialization training.

A Student Scientific Society of Hematology has been established at the Department of Hematology.
The goal of the Hematology SKN is to deepen theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of hematology, to develop the scientific activity of students, and to promote the medical faculty at the University of Rzeszow at home and abroad.
