The topic of my dissertation is: „The issue of the origin and disappearance of archaeological cultures in the methodological and archaeological sources perspective on the example of selected cultural units in the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age in south-eastern Poland”

The aim of the dissertation is to characterize and interpret cultural phenomena relating to the theoretical issues and archaeological sources of the origin and  disappearance of archaeological cultures in the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age in south-eastern Poland. The undertaken issues are closely related to comparative analyses of successive archaeological cultures. The basic research problem focuses on explaining and presenting issues related to cultural change between Mierzanowice culture - Trzciniec culture - Tarnobrzeg Lusatian culture. The analyzed area is interesting due to the border location and foreign influences.

The subject of research are the cultural changes that took place in south-eastern Poland in the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age, which can be recorded and recreated on the basis of archaeological sources. The research is based on analyses of selected materials from archaeological sites located in south-eastern Poland, which will allow an attempt to characterize some of the cultural phenomena. The dataset consists of materials based on the current state of empirical research in the form of well-dated assemblages of both settlement and sepulchral nature available in the archaeological literature, which will be a starting point for further specialized analyses. The reconstruction of the processes of cultural change is inseparably linked with the material from the phases adjacent to the cultures. By selecting teams with distinctly the youngest or oldest features or the so-called mixed in terms of the analyzed cultures, it will be possible to capture the dynamics of processes that influence cultural changes. In order to obtain the maximum cognitive effect of the studied materials, it is planned to conduct specialized analyses related to sciences (e.g. radiocarbon chronometry, thermoluminescence dating, Strontium isotope ratios - ⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr ratios).

The characterized and interpreted cultural phenomena which form a picture of the cultural changes taking place in south-eastern Poland in the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age will be compared with the archaeological sites from neighboring regions in Poland. The expected results of the doctoral dissertation will play a key role in determining the essence and mechanisms of cultural changes related to the origin and disappearance of archaeological cultures and will constitute the first more complete record of sources from the analyzed area and time period. The originality of the doctoral dissertation also lies in the application of interdisciplinary research methods that apart from archeology, would involve various disciplines, both humanistic and scientific.
