Professor Andrzej Przybylski Ph.D. M.D.
Faculty of Medicine, University of Rzeszów
Professor Andrzej Przybylski graduated from the Medical Academy in Warsaw in the First Faculty of Medicine in 1990. After the graduation, he completed postgraduate internship in Mokotów Hospital in Warsaw. In December 1990, he began work in the Coronary Artery Disease Department in the Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw, (The Director: Professor Zygmunt Sadowski, subsequently, professor Hanna Szwed), where he was employed since 2006 in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit.
He obtained a specialization of the first-degree in 1993 and of the second-degree in 1996 in internal medicine and cardiology (2001).
In 1998 he performed a three-month internship in the Cath Lab in a hospital in Lahr, Germany. In 2007 he passed the exam and obtained accreditation of European Heart Rhythm Association (Accreditation on Cardiac Pacing and Defibrillation). In 2007 he won a competition organized by the International Society of Holter and Noninvasive Electrocardiology (ISHNE) and he did a two-week training in the Electrophysiology Laboratory in Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
As one of the first specialists in Poland, already in 1995, I was handling the implantation and care for the patients with implanted cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD). It was the very beginning of using ICD with the endocavitary lead inserted into the right ventricle through the cardiovascular system. Since then, issues relating to the use of ICD and the sudden cardiac death became his main professional, scientific and academic concern. he used this expertise in my Ph.D. dissertation titled: Optimization of conduct after the implantation of cardioverter-defibrillator, which I defended in 2003.
subject.
In 2006 he published (together with Maciej Streliński) first and so far the only monograph in Polish on ICD therapy (Implantable cardiverters-defibrillators. An important chapter in his academic work began in 2000, after establishing cooperation with a team of Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Physics, led by Professor Jan J. Żebrowski. Our area of interest referred to the adoption of the latest methods of physics and mathematics to the evaluation of the heart rhythm variability on the basis of RR intervals tachograms stored in the memory of the ICD.
The cooperation with the Faculty of Physics was the object of Scientific Research Committee grant, performed in 2001-2004, where he was the supervisor.
The effects of this cooperation were the pursuit of his habilitation dissertation The adoption of recurrent diagrams in the evaluation of heart rhythm variability in the period preceding ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation in patients with cardioverter-difibrillator, on the grounds of which he was granted the degree of Doctor Habilitatus by the decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Cardiology as of 1st February 2011.
Simultaneously, on his own initiative, the cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Paris and the Faculty of Electronics of the Technical University of Warsaw was established. Its aim was to apply mathematical methods to increase the specificity of ICD diagnosis.
From May 2006 to September 2014 Prof. Przybylski was working in the Cardiac Arrhythmias Department in the Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw where he was a director of Electrophysiology Lab.
Since October 2014 he has been working in the Medical Faculty of the University of Rzeszów, where I teach students in medical and medical rescue programme. he combine academic work with clinical work, being the Director of the Department of Cardiology in the Provincial Teaching Hospital No.2 in Rzeszów.
In 2021 he received a professor nomination from President of the Republic of Poland.
Professor Przybylski is a member of the Medical Faculty Council of the University of Rzeszów.
He was a author or co- author of many scientific reports published in journals with IF.
He participated in more than 20 multicentre clinical studies.
In the years 2019-21 he was a President of the Heart Rhythm Section Board of Polish Cardiology Association.
Since 2020 he has been a member of the Expert Panel of the European Commission (Medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices).
